Wan Naszeerah is an author, public health researcher, and social impact leader dedicated to improving how we talk about health in a world flooded with digital information.
Born stateless and raised in Southeast Asia, Wan grew up immersed in the Nusantara ways of appreciating life, where traditional and modern approaches to healing coexist in harmony. This upbringing taught her to value plurality and connection—principles that now shape her work as a first-generation public health scientist.
She holds a Master of Public Health from Yale University and a Bachelor of Science in Biological Sciences from UC Davis. Currently pursuing her Doctor of Public Health at UC Berkeley, Wan’s work has evolved from infectious disease epidemiology to becoming a self-described Nusantara infodemiologist, specializing in the digital health infodemic in Bahasa Melayu and Bahasa Indonesia.
Passionate about amplifying community voices, Wan co-founded and leads Projek Infodemik, an initiative collaborating with communities in Brunei, Indonesia, Malaysia, and Singapore to address gaps in digital health information. Together, they work to preserve the richness of local languages and shared heritage while tackling the challenges of the digital infodemic.
Wan currently lives in California with her husband and their aspiring-astronaut child.

Glossary
Epidemiology
It is the study of how diseases, health conditions, and other factors affecting health are distributed and transmitted in populations.
Infodemic
It refers to the rapid and widespread spread of a large volume of information—both accurate and inaccurate—making it difficult for people to discern trustworthy sources and make informed decisions for their health and well-being.
Infodemiology
Coined from "information" and "epidemiology," it aims to understand how information impacts public health behaviors, perceptions, and outcomes, and how it spreads, similar to the way diseases do.
Nusantara
Rooted in history, scholars have used the term to describe the interconnectedness of several Southeast Asian countries—including Brunei, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, and parts of Thailand and the Philippines—bound by shared languages and cultural traditions.
